Adding and Managing Song Attachments in BookLive

Every song in your BookLive library has an Attachments card where you can keep the files that go with it: a rehearsal recording, a lead sheet, a lyric document, or notes for your musicians. You can drag files straight onto the card, upload several at once, and see exactly what happened to each one.

Before You Begin #

Step 1: Open the Song #

  1. In the left sidebar, click Music, then open Songs.
  2. Click the song’s name to open its detail view.
  3. Find the Attachments card. Files you have already added are listed at the top. If there are none, you will see No attachments yet.

Step 2: Add Your Files #

You have two ways to add files:

  • Drag and drop: Drag one or more files from your computer onto the card. The card highlights and the label changes to Drop to upload while your files are over it.
  • Browse: Click Drop files here or click to browse at the bottom of the card, then select one or more files in the window that opens.

Uploading starts right away. You do not need to click a separate button.

Step 3: Follow the Upload Progress #

Each file you add appears as its own row in an upload list, and the files are sent one at a time so each shows an accurate progress bar. The card header shows how many files are left, for example Uploading 2 of 3….

Each row shows one of these states:

  • File size: the file is waiting its turn.
  • A percentage: the file is uploading. The bar stays just under 100% until BookLive has finished saving the file, so a bar that is nearly full is still working.
  • Failed: the upload did not complete. The reason appears under the file name.

When the run finishes, a message at the bottom of the screen summarizes the result, such as 3 files uploaded or 2 files uploaded, 1 failed. Successful files move into the attachment list above, and any failed files stay in the upload list so you can deal with them.

Step 4: Retry or Dismiss Failed Uploads #

For any file that failed, you can:

  • Click Retry to try the same file again, for example after reconnecting to the internet.
  • Click the X (Dismiss) to remove the row from the list.

Common reasons an upload fails, and what to do:

  • The file is larger than 500 MB: BookLive tells you the file’s size and the limit before it is sent. Compress the file or split it up.
  • The file is empty: If you dragged a folder by mistake, you will see Folders cannot be uploaded, only files. Open the folder and drag the files inside it instead.
  • The file name is longer than 255 characters: Rename the file and try again.
  • Connection or session problems: Check your internet connection and click Retry. If you are told your session has expired, reload the page and log in again.
  • You do not have permission to add files here: Confirm you are a member of the group that owns the song.

Step 5: Open or Delete an Attachment #

  • Click a file’s name in the list to open it in a new browser tab.
  • Click the trash icon next to a file to delete it. BookLive asks you to confirm first, and deleting cannot be undone.

Tips & Notes #

  • Attachments use the original file name. Rename the file on your computer before uploading if you want a clearer label.
  • You can drop new files while others are still uploading. They join the end of the line.
  • The same file can be chosen again after a failure, so you never have to close and reopen the browse window.
