Step 3: Creating Your Group/Act #

Even if you’re a solo artist, you’ll need to create a “group” in BookLive to manage your performances. Think of it as your act or brand.

Why Create a Group? #

For Solo Artists:

  • Your “group” represents your solo act
  • You’ll be the only member and leader
  • This is where clients book you
  • Manages your contracts, pricing, and branding

For Band Leaders:

  • Represents your band or ensemble
  • You can add other musicians as members
  • Centralized management for all band activities

Creating Your First Group #

From your dashboard:

  1. Click “+ Create Group” button
  1. Enter your act name

– For solo artists: Your stage name or professional name
– For bands: Your band/group name
– Examples: “Sarah Johnson Jazz Trio”, “The Acoustic Experience”, “DJ Mike Productions”

– What types of bookings do you accept?
– Select from options like:
– Solo performer
– Small ensemble (2-5 members)
– Full band (6+ members)
– DJ services
– Multi-service (can vary)

  1. Click “Create”

Your group is now created! Next, you’ll complete the profile.

Step 4: Building Your Group Profile #

Common Questions #

“Do I need to create a group even as a solo artist?” #

Yes. Your “group” represents your solo act. Think of it as your brand or business entity. You’ll be the only member and leader.

“What if I perform with multiple groups?” #

Perfect! You can:

  1. Lead your own solo group
  2. Be a member of multiple other groups
  3. Receive requests from any group
  4. Track income separately for each

Your dashboard will show “Gigs I’m Playing” (as a member) and “Gigs I Manage” (your own bookings).

“When do I need to set up Stripe Connect?” #

You can set it up anytime, but you must have it connected before you receive your first payment.

We recommend setting it up during onboarding because:

  • Verification takes 1-2 business days
  • You won’t miss any payment opportunities
  • One less thing to worry about when you book your first gig

“Can I change my pricing later?” #

Absolutely! Pricing is completely flexible:

  • Edit existing packages anytime
  • Add new pricing options
  • Remove outdated packages
  • Pricing only affects future quotes, not existing contracts

“How do I get booked?” #

Three main ways:

  1. Public Booking Form

– Clients find you on BookLive
– Book directly through your profile
– You receive notification

  1. Gig Vault Outreach

– Search 30,000+ venue contacts
– Send personalized pitch emails
– Use proven templates

  1. Referrals & Networking

– Past clients refer new ones
– Other musicians hire you as a sub
– Venue managers recommend you

Pro tip: Do all three! Diversify your lead sources for consistent bookings.

“What if I don’t have photos or videos yet?” #

Start with what you have:

  • Use smartphone photos (well-lit, high quality)
  • Record your next performance with phone
  • Ask friends/clients for photos from events
  • Hire a photographer for a session (worth it!)

You can always update later. An incomplete profile is better than no profile.

“Do I have to pay to use BookLive?” #

Pricing depends on your usage:

  • First [X] performances are free
  • After that, subscription or per-performance fees apply
  • Stripe processing fees apply to all payments (typically 2.9% + $0.30)

Check Menu → Settings → Billing for current pricing.
