BookLive Pro can automatically surface event opportunities near you — but not every musician wants every type of event, and not everyone is willing to travel the same distance. Event Research Preferences let you tell BookLive exactly what to look for on your behalf: how far from your home city to search, which event types interest you, and whether auto-research should run at all. This article explains how to find and configure these preferences.
Before You Begin #
- Event Research Preferences require a BookLive Pro subscription.
- You must be a group leader to change these settings.
- Make sure your group location is set — BookLive uses it as the center point for your search radius.
Step 1: Open Event Opportunities #
- Sign in at https://booklive.com/login.
- In the left sidebar, click your group name to open your group dashboard.
- Expand Gig Vault in the navigation.
- Click Event Opportunities.
- Click Discover in the sub-navigation to open the event catalog.
Step 2: Find the Event Research Preferences Card #
Scroll to the Event Research Preferences card on the Discover page. This card controls how BookLive’s research team finds events for your area. Changes you make here save automatically — there is no separate Save button.
Step 3: Enable or Disable Auto-Research #
The Auto-research enabled toggle controls whether BookLive periodically submits research requests for your area in the background.
- On (default): BookLive’s team regularly researches events near your city and adds them to the catalog for you to discover.
- Off: No automatic research requests are submitted. The catalog may still contain events others have researched, but BookLive won’t proactively look for new ones in your area. You can still submit a one-off request at any time using the Request Area Sweep button on the Discover tab.
Step 4: Set Your Search Radius #
The Search radius (miles) field tells BookLive how far from your group’s home city to look for events. You can enter any value from 1 to 1,000 miles — most users choose between 25 and 100. Press Enter or click away from the field to save the change.
A smaller radius keeps results local and reduces noise. A larger radius is useful if you regularly travel for gigs or want to pitch events in nearby metro areas.
Step 5: Choose Your Event Types #
The Event types of interest section shows chips for each event category BookLive tracks:
- Convention
- Conference
- Festival
- Gala / Fundraiser
- Corporate Event
- Wedding Expo
- Open House
- Sporting Event
- Community Event
- Concert Series
- Other
Click a chip to select it — selected chips show a checkmark and appear highlighted. Click again to deselect.
- No chips selected: BookLive considers events of every type when researching your area. This is the default and gives you the broadest possible coverage.
- One or more chips selected: BookLive narrows its research to only those event types. Use this if you only pitch certain kinds of events (for example, corporate events and galas) and don’t want unrelated results cluttering your catalog.
Tips & Notes #
- These preferences do not filter the catalog you see — they guide the BookLive research team when they add new events. Use the Type filter chips on the Discover tab to filter what you see right now.
- Turning off auto-research doesn’t remove events already in the catalog; it just stops new research requests from being submitted on your behalf.
- If you change cities or expand your territory, update the search radius here so future research reflects where you actually want to work.
