The Tag Manager is your central hub for organizing the tags across your entire song library. From one page you can create tags, rename or delete existing ones, merge duplicates together, and use AI to suggest tags for untagged songs — all without opening individual song records. Keeping your tags clean and consistent makes it much faster to build setlists and timelines for every performance.
Before You Begin #
- You must be a group leader or manager to access the Tag Manager.
- Songs must already exist in your library. See Adding and Managing Songs in Your Library if you need to add repertoire first.
Step 1: Open the Tag Manager #
- Log in to BookLive at https://booklive.com/login.
- Select your group from the dashboard.
- In the left sidebar, navigate to Library.
- Click Tag Manager in the Library submenu.
The Tag Manager lists every tag in your group’s library along with a song count for each one. Use the Search tags… field at the top of the table to quickly find a specific tag by name.
Step 2: Add a New Tag #
- Click the Add Tag button in the top-left of the toolbar.
- Type a name for your tag in the dialog that appears.
- As you type, BookLive checks for similar tags that already exist and shows them as clickable chips beneath the field. If one of those matches what you need, click it to use the existing tag instead of creating a duplicate.
- If no existing tag fits, click Add Tag to create the new one.
If your library has no tags yet, you’ll see an Add Default Tags button on the empty state. Clicking it seeds your library with a standard set of BookLive tags (genre, mood, event segment, and more) so you have a useful starting point without building from scratch.
Step 3: Rename or Delete a Tag #
Each row in the Tag Manager has two action buttons on the right side:
- Rename (pencil icon): Opens an inline dialog where you can type a new name and click Save. All songs tagged with the old name are automatically updated to the new name.
- Delete (trash icon): Opens a confirmation dialog that tells you exactly how many songs will lose the tag. Click Delete to confirm. The tag is removed from every song it was on — this cannot be undone.
Step 4: Merge Tags Manually #
Use manual merging when you already know which tags are duplicates or near-duplicates (for example, “Pop” and “Pop Music”).
- Check the checkbox next to each tag you want to consolidate. You must select at least two tags.
- Click Merge Selected (N) in the top-right of the toolbar.
- A review dialog appears showing each merge as an equation: Source Tag (N songs) + Source Tag (N songs) = Target Name (projected total).
- Edit the Merge into field to set the name of the surviving tag. You can type a new name or keep one of the existing ones.
- Click Accept next to each merge to apply it, or Reject to skip it.
- When you’re done, click Close. If there are still pending merges, BookLive will ask you to confirm before discarding them.
Merging moves all songs from the source tags onto the target tag, then deletes the source tags so your list stays clean.
Step 5: Merge Tags With AI ✨ #
Use AI-assisted merging when you have a large tag library and want BookLive to identify consolidation opportunities for you.
- Click Merge Tags With AI ✨ in the top-right of the toolbar.
- BookLive analyzes your full tag list and returns a suggested merge plan. This may take a few seconds.
- Review each suggested merge in the dialog. For each one you can edit the target name, click Accept to apply it immediately, or click Reject to skip it.
- Work through the list at your own pace. Accepted merges are applied as you go — you don’t need to wait until the end.
- Click Close when finished.
Step 6: Tag Untagged Songs With AI ✨ #
If you have songs in your library with no tags at all, BookLive can analyze them and suggest appropriate tags in bulk.
- Click Tag Untagged Songs With AI ✨ in the top-left of the toolbar.
- BookLive scans your untagged songs and returns a list of suggestions. Each row shows the song title, artist, and the tags the AI proposes.
- Review each suggestion:
- Click the × on any individual tag pill to remove it from that song’s suggestion.
- Click the + chip next to the tags to add an existing tag from your library to the suggestion.
- Click Reject on a song row to exclude it entirely. Click Undo to bring it back.
- When you’re satisfied, click Accept All to apply all non-rejected suggestions, or Accept Remaining (N) if you’ve rejected some rows.
Only songs that currently have zero tags are included in the AI suggestions. Songs that already have at least one tag are skipped.
Tips & Notes #
- Tag names are shared across your whole group — any tag you create in the Tag Manager is immediately available when tagging individual songs or filtering the setlist builder.
- Tags added via the Tag Manager also appear in the song tag filter on your public group profile if your profile is live.
- The Tag Manager tracks a history of actions (renames, merges, deletes) in the background so BookLive support can help you recover from accidental changes if needed — contact support if you need to reverse a bulk operation.
- Deleting a tag that is actively used on many songs is permanent. Consider merging it into another tag instead if you still want those songs to be findable by that category.
