Tags let you categorize every song in your BookLive library so you can filter, search, and organize your repertoire by genre, mood, decade, or event segment (Prelude, Cocktail Hour, Reception, and more). Once songs are tagged, those tags appear when adding songs to setlists and performance timelines, making it easy to pull exactly the right music for each moment.
Before You Begin #
- You must be a group leader or manager to create and manage tags.
- Songs must already exist in your library before you can tag them. See Adding and Managing Songs in Your Library if you need to add repertoire first.
Step 1: Navigate to Your Tags Library #
- Log in to BookLive at https://booklive.com/login.
- Select your group from the dashboard.
- In the left sidebar, navigate to your Library.
- Click the Tags section to open the Tags Library.
The Tags Library shows all your existing tags alongside the number of songs assigned to each one. From here you can create new tags, rename existing ones, and delete tags you no longer need.
Step 2: Create a New Tag Manually #
If you want to define tags yourself before applying them to songs:
- Open a song in your library (navigate to Library, then click a song title).
- Scroll to the Tags section on the song detail page.
- Click inside the Select Tags to attach field. Your existing tags will appear as options.
- To create a brand-new tag, scroll to the bottom of the dropdown and click + Create New Tag.
- Enter a name for the tag and click + Add.
The new tag is saved to your group’s tag library and immediately applied to the song.
Step 3: Assign Tags to a Song #
- Open any song from your library.
- In the Tags section, click the Select Tags to attach field.
- Choose one or more tags from the dropdown. You can apply as many tags as needed.
- Tags are saved automatically as you select them — no separate save step required.
To remove a tag from a song, click the × on the tag chip in the field.
Step 4: Auto-Tag Songs with AI #
BookLive includes a built-in AI tagging feature that reads your song titles and artists and suggests appropriate tags. You can run AI tagging on individual songs or in bulk across your entire library.
Tag a Single Song with AI #
- Open the song from your library.
- In the Tags section, click the Tag With AI ✨ button.
- The AI will analyze the song and assign tags automatically. Results appear within a few seconds.
Bulk Auto-Tag Untagged Songs #
- Go to your Tags Library.
- Click the Tag Untagged Songs With AI ✨ button at the top of the page.
- The AI processes up to 25 untagged songs at a time. A confirmation message will appear showing how many songs were tagged and how many remain untagged.
- Repeat as needed until all songs are tagged.
The AI prioritizes reusing your existing tags for consistency, and will create new tags only when none of your current ones are a good fit. You can always rename or delete AI-generated tags from the Tags Library.
Step 5: Filter Songs by Tag #
Once your songs are tagged, you can filter by tag anywhere you browse or add songs:
- Song library: Use the tag filter dropdown to narrow the view to songs that match one or more tags.
- Adding songs to a timeline or setlist: When the song picker is open, use the Filter by tags dropdown to limit the list to songs with specific tags. This is especially helpful for finding all your cocktail hour songs or slow dance options at a glance.
Step 6: Edit or Delete Tags #
To rename or remove a tag from your library:
- Navigate to your Tags Library.
- Find the tag in the table.
- Click the edit (pencil) icon to rename it. Update the name and click Save.
- Click the delete (trash) icon to remove it. Confirm when prompted.
Deleting a tag removes it from all songs in your library. The songs themselves are not affected.
Tips & Notes #
- Think in client language: Tags like “Cocktail Hour,” “First Dance,” and “Upbeat” are more useful than internal shorthand — they mirror how clients describe their needs.
- Mix tag types: Use a combination of genre (Jazz, Classical, Pop), mood (Romantic, Upbeat, Ambient), decade (80s, 90s), and event segment (Prelude, Processional) for maximum flexibility.
- Run AI in batches: The bulk AI tagger handles 25 songs per click. For large libraries, run it several times until all songs are covered.
- Review AI suggestions: AI tagging is a strong starting point, but you know your repertoire best. Spot-check a few songs after bulk tagging and adjust any tags that don’t feel right.
