Prerequisites #

Before setting up Stripe Connect:

  • ✅ Active BookLive account (group leader or individual artist)
  • ✅ Valid government ID (for verification)
  • ✅ Bank account information
  • ✅ Business/personal information (address, tax ID, etc.)
  • ✅ Email access (for Stripe verification)

What Is Stripe Connect? #

Stripe Connect is a payment platform that allows BookLive to send payouts directly to your bank account.

How It Works #

Client pays BookLive for your performance
        ↓
BookLive processes payment via Stripe
        ↓
Funds automatically transferred to your Stripe account
        ↓
Stripe deposits funds to your bank account
        ↓
You receive payment (typically 2 business days)

Before You Begin #

Individual Artists vs. Groups #

Individual Artists:

  • Connect your personal Stripe account
  • Receive payouts for performances you book individually
  • Report income on personal tax return

Groups:

  • Connect a Stripe account for the group/business
  • Receive payouts for all group performances
  • Group leader manages the account
  • Distribute to individual musicians separately

💡 Tip: Most musicians will connect Stripe for both their group AND their individual artist profile if they do solo work.

Information You’ll Need #

Personal Information:

  • Full legal name
  • Date of birth
  • Home address
  • Last 4 digits of Social Security Number (or full SSN)
  • Phone number

Business Information (for groups):

  • Business legal name
  • Business type (LLC, Corporation, Sole Proprietorship, etc.)
  • Employer Identification Number (EIN) or SSN
  • Business address

Bank Account:

  • Bank name
  • Routing number (9 digits)
  • Account number
  • Account type (checking or savings)

Identification:

  • Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license, passport)
  • May need to upload photo of ID

Step 1: Access Stripe Connect Setup #

For Groups #

  1. Log in to BookLive at https://booklive.com
  2. Navigate to your group page
  3. Click “Finances” or “Financial Settings” tab
  4. Look for “Connect Stripe” or “Set Up Payouts” button
  5. Click the button to begin

For Individual Artists #

  1. Log in to BookLive
  2. Go to Settings (gear icon)
  3. Click “Payments” or “BookLive Pay” section
  4. Look for “Connect Stripe Account” button
  5. Click to start setup

Step 2: Create or Connect Stripe Account #

You’ll be redirected to Stripe to either:

  • Create a new Stripe account (if you don’t have one)
  • Connect an existing Stripe account (if you already use Stripe)

Creating a New Stripe Account #

Step 2a: Enter Your Email

  1. Enter the email address you want to use for Stripe
  2. This can be the same as your BookLive email or different
  3. Click “Continue”

Step 2b: Create Password

  1. Create a strong password for your Stripe account
  2. Confirm the password
  3. Click “Continue”

💡 Tip: Use a password manager to generate and store a strong password.

Connecting Existing Stripe Account #

If you already have a Stripe account:

  1. Click “Sign in to existing account”
  2. Enter your Stripe email and password
  3. Authorize BookLive to connect to your account

Step 3: Business/Personal Information #

Stripe will ask for information to verify your identity and comply with financial regulations.

Business Type Selection #

Choose the option that applies to you:

Individual / Sole Proprietor:

  • You’re operating as yourself
  • No separate business entity
  • Report income on personal taxes (Schedule C)

Company:

  • LLC, Corporation, Partnership, etc.
  • Registered business entity
  • Separate business taxes

💡 Tip for Groups: Most music groups should select “Company” even if informal. Consult a tax professional if unsure.

Personal Information #

Enter your personal details:

Legal Name:

  • Must match your government ID exactly
  • First name, last name
  • Middle initial (if on ID)

Date of Birth:

  • Month, day, year
  • Used for identity verification

Home Address:

  • Street address
  • City, state, ZIP code
  • Must be your actual residence

Tax Information:

  • Last 4 digits of SSN (at minimum)
  • Full SSN may be required for higher volume
  • EIN if business entity

Phone Number:

  • Mobile phone preferred
  • Used for verification and security

Business Information (if applicable) #

For business accounts:

Business Legal Name:

  • Exact name as registered with state
  • Example: “Smith Family Music LLC”

Business Address:

  • Can be same as personal or separate

Business Website (optional):

  • Your group’s website

Step 4: Bank Account Setup #

Connect your bank account to receive payouts.

Adding Bank Account #

  1. Select “United States” (or your country)
  2. Enter routing number (9 digits)
  3. Enter account number
  4. Select account type: Checking or Savings

  • Bottom of your checks
  • Online banking portal
  • Bank’s mobile app
  • Call your bank if unsure

Verify Bank Account #

Stripe will verify your bank account using one of these methods:

Option A: Instant Verification (preferred)

  • Log in to your bank through Stripe’s secure portal
  • Verification happens instantly
  • No waiting period

Option B: Micro-Deposits (backup)

  • Stripe sends 2 small deposits (e.g., $0.32 and $0.45)
  • Takes 1-2 business days to appear
  • You enter the amounts to verify
  • Return to Stripe to confirm amounts

Step 5: Identity Verification #

Stripe must verify your identity to comply with financial regulations.

Step 7: Access Your Stripe Dashboard #

Once connected, you can access your Stripe dashboard to manage your account.

From BookLive #

  1. Go to Finances or Settings
  2. Look for “Open Stripe Dashboard” or “Manage Stripe Account” button
  3. Click to access Stripe

Stripe will generate a secure login link (no password needed from BookLive).

Direct Login to Stripe #

You can also access Stripe directly:

  1. Go to https://dashboard.stripe.com
  2. Log in with your Stripe email/password
  3. View all your payment activity

Understanding Your Stripe Dashboard #

Home Screen #

Balance:

  • Pending: Payments processing (not yet available)
  • Available: Funds ready to pay out to your bank

Recent Activity:

  • List of recent payments
  • Transfers to your bank account
  • Any refunds or disputes

Key Sections #

Payments:

  • All payments received from BookLive
  • Client names (if available)
  • Payment amounts and dates
  • Processing fees

Payouts:

  • History of deposits to your bank
  • Payout schedule (daily, weekly, monthly)

Balance:

  • Current balance in Stripe
  • Pending vs available funds

Configuring Payout Schedule #

You can customize when you receive payouts.

Default Schedule #

Standard Automatic Payouts:

  • Frequency: Daily

  • No action required – happens automatically

Monday: Client pays for performance ($1,000)

Changing Payout Schedule #

Why this happens:

❓ “Your account is restricted” #

For Groups:

  • Recommended but not always required
  • Depends on your business structure

For Individual Artists:

  • Personal bank account is fine
  • Report income on Schedule C

Security & Best Practices #

Keep Your Account Secure #

✅ Do This:

  • Use a strong, unique password
  • Enable two-factor authentication (2FA)
  • Never share your Stripe password
  • Review transactions regularly
  • Keep contact information current

❌ Don’t Do This:

  • Share Stripe credentials with band members
  • Use the same password as other accounts

Processing Fees (paid by client, not you):

  • Client pays these when they pay for the performance

Instant Payout Fees (optional):

  • Only if you request instant manual payouts
  • 1% of payout amount ($0.50 minimum)
  • Avoid by using free automatic payouts

Tax Considerations #

1099 Forms #

If you receive more than $600 in a year:

  • Stripe will send you Form 1099-K
  • Reports your gross payment volume
  • You must report this income on taxes

When you’ll receive it:

  • Mailed by January 31st
